12 PhD and 6 Postdoctoral positions
in Finland, France, Germany , Spain, Switzerland and The Netherlands
Within the Marie Curie Research Training Network (RTN)
Cause-Effect Relations of
Key Pollutants on the
European Rivers Biodiversity
First call: December 2006
Now extended until January 2007!!
KEYBIOEFFECTS research training network is aiming to provide the elements required to train the new generations of researchers skills needed to solve problems surrounding biodiversity conservation and water pollution in European rivers and to transfer this knowledge to different stakeholder groups. The scientific objective of this project is to provide a better understanding of the causes of ecological quality loss and the cause-effect relationships of pollution and to derive from this knowledge practical tools for water quality assessment.
Projects in the following research areas are available:
¡¤ Risk-directed analysis of polluted river samples
¡¤ Identification of newly emerging toxicants
¡¤ Fate and behaviour (sorption, biodegradation) of new toxicants
¡¤ Toxicants bioavailability in benthic invertebrates and biofilms
¡¤ Toxicants effects on the rivers¡¯ biodiversity
¡¤ Modelling transport and biological effects of pollutants
¡¤ Elaborate diagnostic tools to assess the effects of pollution on European rivers biodiversity
Project details, starting dates of the positions as well as application and eligibility criteria and contact persons are available on http://www.udg.cat/keybioeffects. Applicants should send two recommendation letters, their CV and a letter detailing how they would contribute to the project by January 31, 2007 directly to the contact person of the chosen PhD or post-doc project. For more information please contact the KEYBIOEFFECTS coordinator Dr. H. Guasch (Helena.guasch@udg.es and Keybioeffects@udg.es) at the Institute of Aquatic Ecology, University of Girona (Spain).
